This verse primarily references the judgement that must be sent to those who afflict Israel. Many times has Israel been afflicted in her day and as she grew up. The worst transgressions were in her “childhood” as a nation. The early years with the infinite battles and then the slavery in Egypt. The Lord is righteous and does all things with a purpose. He cut the legs off the wicked and leaves them lame and struggling without Him. This is a parallel for us. In our early years we struggle to truly know God and be connected to Him. We fall victim to other things as our masters and are weak. We are afflicted by sin and bad influences. Yet as we grow, God saves us through His righteousness. He helps us cast away the wicked and the sinful activities we once enjoyed. Now we find them to be wasteful.
As God helps mend our lives through His grace and mercy, He cuts down the wicked. “Let them all be confounded and turned back who hate Zion”, verse 4. They do not receive full heart and souls as the Lord is not part of the equation.
Even as we (and Israel) have sinned and will always be sinners, we still receive blessings from God! We are blessed because of our Faith and the promises of God. The wicked and unfaithful are not privy to this as they have no or little faith. Believe and be saved from sin and the wicked influences of our world.
