The author (most likely David), opens this chapter with a tremendous prayer in the first 2 verses. “Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusts in You: yea, in the shadow of Your wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.” “I will cry unto God Most High; unto God who performs for me.”
The first verse is repetitive, stressing the importance of the statement. David is asking for mercy for he knows he needs it. He is asking for mercy under the shadow of the Lord’s wings 🪽. He is asking for mercy and protection. We must also seek both of these things from God. To get here we are given the instruction in the 2nd verse. Cry out to the Lord and praise Him!
David’s heart is fixed on God. He awakes early to praise the Lord. Because David understands that the only way to trust in God and to receive His mercy and Grace is to be with Him always.
Verse 5&11 are the exact same verse. “Be thou exalted, O God, above the Heavens: Let your Glory be above all the Earth. This must be the Holy Spirit through our author proclaiming the Might and Power of the Lord above all. How imperative it is that we know and remember this. We are but specks of dust that are loved and protected by the Light of the World.
