After Jesus had commanded the 12 disciples and set them on their way to preach in accordance with our previous verse, an imprisoned John the Baptist asked Jesus through liaison if He was the one who should come or do we look for another? Doubt can have a home in all of us if it can a have a home in John the Baptist. Faith has no room for doubt in it. Cast your doubts aside knowing Jesus is Lord.
Jesus answered Him, to tell the liaisons to tell John of the great works he hath done again. John’s mind was on a different type of kingdom than the one God had planned. Once again our efforts to control the world we live in prove mostly futile. Jesus adds a hidden beatitude to the list from chapter 5 here in verse 6 - “And blessed is he, whosever shall be offended in Me”. We are never to take offense of the Lord and His plans for He knows the way and His path is the straight and narrow!
Jesus proclaimed to those around Him how high of standing John the Baptist was in. Above the prophets and below only the lowest in the kingdom of Heaven. John fulfilled the prophecy to have a messenger of Christ come before Christ and pave the path for Him to flourish. All other prophets prophesied. John spoke the truth and opened the door to Christ for so many. Israel may have rejected John but that did not make it right. We are to accept John and those around us in the place they are in today. Embrace today and love the Lord always. Know He is by your side to guide you as He was John, Jesus, and all those before us.
Rejecting the Word of Christ has more punishment than breaking any law could have. Jesus condemns those cities who did not accept the Word from the 12. How fraught they must have been when the 12 couldn’t change people’s minds. We should not fret for the door to the Kingdom is open to all, but we have to have the key, full faith in Christ the Lord.
It is proclaimed again by Jesus in verses 25-27 that the only way to God, the Father, is through the Son! “All things are delivered unto me!”
Christ’s yoke is easy for He has the power to carry it. Cast your lot with His and be SAVED.
