Matthew 21: This is the Palm Sunday scripture. The thing I did not realize is that a colt and a donkey were both with Jesus when He rode into Jerusalem. Yet the colt was empty. Was this the spot for Israel to ride had she accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior? The leadership of Israel that is. The people of Jerusalem welcomed Jesus as a prophet, for they knew not what He was. The praise from the people shook the whole city. “Hosanna in the Highest!” Rang out from the throngs of people there to welcome Christ into the city.
Jesus went to the Temple straight away casting out the moneychangers and salesmen. His house in the house of prayer, not a den of thieves - Verse 13. So He healed the blind and the lame. The true use of the Temple. The Chief Priests and Scribes were sore of Jesus doing this. For they had never seen the Holy Spirit at work! The strength of the weak is praise, and worship of Christ is strength. The weak and powerless gave Him praise and that was their strength. Not strength like men believe but strength of spirit.
Jesus falls not for the tricks of the Temple leaders as they are false and have terrible form. The embarrassment of these demon riddled men to question Christ is abhorrent. Yet, the scripture demanded these men to remain tainted for us. It is amazing how God uses the devil against himself. Jesus turns their question on itself with the comparison to John the Baptist, who introduced Christ to the world. Is Temple leaders refused to be truthful to be honest with Christ, He was going to treat them the same. We must always be honest. With Christ and with men. For it is sinful to be stuck in the mud with lying. Do not let your nose grow in spite of your face. Our honor depends on the truth telling we decide to dole out. Keep a leash on your tongue.
We have not directly seen the miracles of God as the people in Jesus’s time did. We are called to have the same Faith as the people had in Christ then. Believe in the Lord and the Word and repent when we are in the wrong. Do not be like the priests and falter and be stubborn in your disbelief. Admit your wrongness and move forward with Christ as your Savior. Free of petulance and sin.
Do not allow ourselves to fall into the trap of the priests. Understand the pain and suffering Christ is going to suffer. And lift Him up above ourselves and all of mankind. Do not kick Him down as the priests did. Christ lays constant traps for these wicked men in His parables. Causing them great embarrassment. Learn from these parables where not to take our hearts. Find the purity and love of Christ in the Word. Where all things Holy are made right and every man’s Rock resides.
