This chapter refers to the Trespass Offering. This is to atone for trespasses against God. Touching the unclean, swearing an oath not to God, or being witness to these things requires atonement. This is according to Old Testament law. We do not have to live through the old restatement law. When was the last time you made a sacrifice of an animal of your sins?
We come short of being like Christ daily and it is impossible for us to follow the Ole Testament. We are blessed to have Christ and the New Covenant to take the Old Testament’s place. Jesus’s sacrifice on the Cross atones for us all every day. The whole lot of sin was cast on Him as a man and because of this we are free from sin. As long as we repent. There is no need to slaughter innocent animals and sacrifice them to secure grace and forgiveness. We have that always through prayer.
No matter the trespass (sin) it must be accounted our. As verses 8-11 make clear with the variations of the sacrifice that are allowed. There is no sin that does not meet the requirements of sacrifice or atonement. Every person whether rich or poor was treated the same as the variations provided the ability for all to participate. Christ does the same for us. Every sin need atoned for, and Christ will do that for us, if we seek Him and forgiveness. As well, Christ is for all. None are exempt from His judgement and all are welcome in His House.
Whether our sin is in ignorance, or in knowledge or in indifference, if it is seen as a sin in the eyes of the Lord, we must repent. God told Moses for Israel that they needed to sacrifice an unblemished Ram when they sinned against God. To remove this sin the Ram’s blood was what it took to remove the sin from the man. Christ shed His blood for us. He is our unblemished Ram.
