When the 7 days were over and the 8th day began, a new week, a new life, a renewed covenant from God for us all to enjoy. God's numbers matter, even if we do not always understand their meaning. This one is pretty clear to me. On a new week and after The Lord himself took 7 days to make the cosmos. A new week symbolizes a new life in Him. A renewed covenant from man to God. Israel is told in verse 4 - “..for today the Lord will appear to you.” How their anticipation must have built. God would appear on earth.
They were told to bring a calf and a ram and a kid and a lamb and a bullock and a ram and meat offering (flour based offering) to be sacrificed at the altar. The offering is a sacrifice of our sins carried in the vessel of another. Christ is our offering and without an offering we are worse off than the heathen. Give thanks and praise for Christ being our Sacrifice on the Altar (The Cross) the Lord our God asked of Him.
Moses, Aaron, and the priests perpetuated the rituals just as God had commanded them to. All of the Offerings for Aaron and for Israel alike. This in effect cleansed Israel of her sins and recognized God as the one true God. Now God has given forgiveness to all in Israel and they have purity together in front of the Temple. Where do we find our purity?
After all this was done, Moses and Aaron came out and blessed the people. Verse 24 says “And there came a fire out from before the LORD and consume upon the Altar the Burnt Offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted and fell on their faces.” The Lord gave fire out of the holiest part of the Temple, where the 10 commandments were kept, and consumed the offerings many for Him. He went through the cloth separating these areas without catching them ablaze and without other typical signs of fire. The consumption of the offering is exactly what God needs to show to symbolize the importance of his rituals to His people. We are no different in our standing with God. We must commit ourselves to the rituals we are now called to do. Repentance and confession being the first of many things that Christ calls on us to do. Commit to Christ and God will be present in your life.
