This chapter is about leprosy. Leprosy is a disease, but the symbol of it is much greater. A symbol of sin of man, deep and unforgiven sin. Sin which cannot be overcome. Only through God can our sins be reconciled. His son died for us so that we can live eternally.
The priest was the determining source of the disease as it was from God. The instructions to determine what disease it is, are from God, not from man. The priest will determine clean or unclean per the instructions God gave to Moses. There is yet more symbolism here for all of us. The Lord determine sin for us. We do not determine sin as man. And if we did, we would do a poor job of it. The Word provides the course of action for the priests, as does the Word provides the course of action for us! Read carefully into the Word and take it into your heart. Let the Lord guide you from his instructions and you will get to where you need to be.
Do not attempt to reclassify sin. Verse 22 portrays leprosy as a plague. Sin is a plague of man healed only through Christ. But do not twist sin around and call it what it is not. Sin is not a disease or a born-with affliction. Sin is a choice we make to obey or disobey. Do not be tricked by the softness of the world today. Be hard and fast to the Lord through the trials and the tribulations.
The detail here given in these instructions is how great a care God gives each one of us. He has so much love for us that he would do everything to keep us safe in His name. He sacrificed His Son for us to be with Him. Our care is His desire but we must trust and obey. For there is no other way!
The leprosy of the garment is one that requires patience to determine, the same patience granted us by God. This leprosy is a leprosy of circumstance more than of sin. There is evil afoot in our lives, it must be discovered and snuffed out before it grows into a leprosy of the soul. Find the patience and the comfort of the Lord in every chapter of the Word, in every cloud in the sky, and every leaf on every tree. For He is everywhere always. Be overtaken by His love, which is freely given yet off not received.
