God stresses at the beginning of this chapter that He alone is God and we should have no other gods before Him. Keep His Sabbath for He is the Lord. The struggle we all face in the light of the world today is that Satan has created idols everywhere we look. Our pocket holds the biggest distraction and contain much trouble. Be cautious with the adaptation of technology. Moar is not always better.
If we walk in His Commandments, the blessings we would receive would be unimaginable. Rain for our crops and abundance unto them. A safe bountiful harvest and a safe place to reside. He shall chase our enemies with us. God guarantees victory if we are pure in Him. Verse 3-13 describe how much we will receive from the Lord if we can follow Him. Yet, we cannot with Christ. The Sacrificial system of the Mosaic Law held the place of Christ until it was His time to be the Redeemer. God delivered Israel from Egypt, from the desert (or from themselves), yet Israel struggles to keep the Faith. How oft we struggle to keep our Faith in the right places and in the right quantities. The struggle of man in all times. Even with Christ, our struggles are just a new variant of that of our ancestors.
Verses 14-20 document the punishment from God. These are the pure inverse of the potential blessings we would receive under Him. How amazing it is that with God, we are bountiful and blessed. But without God, we are downtrodden, defeated, without plenty, and weak. If our punishment is not severe enough to turn the people over it will be multiplied 7 times. Be humble of our actions and thoughtful over God's response. Ask the Lord what we would have us do. This is a place to ask for permission before asking for forgiveness.
Being at odds with the Lord drives the Lord to bring forth punishment unto us. Plagues will take away the food and pestilence shall take away health. Drought will wreck the harvests and the animals. Your enemies will run you over and you shall be scattered by the heathen. The plagues of God know no bounds. He shall rule in totality over man and and Israel and any disobedience will be met with punishment. The "Fear your Lord your God " is very real and should always be remembered. God promises to always fulfill His promises made to Jacob and Abraham and Isaac. With repentance we are all justified in our freedom with God. Devoid from His wrath through Faith and Love and Mercy. Christ has saved us from ourselves if only we believe.
