Thessalonians 2: Paul speaks to His testimony and ministry and how much struggle he faced to tell the Truth of God to the World. The Boldness required by Paul and the the church was imperative as the contention they met was severe. Is your Faith bold? Does your Faith testify to the World? The strength and motivation it takes for this level can only be given by the Holy Spirit. Grow your Faith and someday we can all be at the level of Paul, when God allows us into His kingdom.
The attitude of Paul and the early church (referred to by Paul as “we”), was that of honoring God and God alone. They did not honor man or speak pleasingly of themselves unless in reference to their service of Him. They did not covet nor attempt to extract praise from the world. They recognized their equality to those they preached toward. That equality is for all. Where we stand with God before Christ intervenes, this is where we are all equal as imperfect sinners.
Paul and his followers had grown to love the Thessalonians. The labor of God became a labor of love as it should us as well. Encouraging and empowering other amongst us if so crucial to our success as followers of Christ. Paul changes his feeling to from mother to father. We have led you in a direction instead of the motherly tenderness he used earlier. God has called us all, as our Father, to give glory to Him. Walk worthy of Him through Christ.
The Thessalonians received the Word and accepted it. That is why the Word worked in their lives so effectively and their church grew innumerably. Do we accept the Word in the same manner and allow it to affect our lives? This is how the spirit moves through us. Our weakness knows no bounds but with the Spirit working in us we are stronger in His name.
The Glory of the Church is what Paul revels in to end the verse. In spite of the separation of him and these people he is so favorable toward them with their work, even in spite of their suffering and persecutions. If Paul were here today, what would he say of you?
