This chapter opens with something that applies so cleanly to every time of man. Paul says that he has given his Brethren (the Thessalonians) the instructions to walk and please God in our lives. These instructions are the basis of how our faith grows and grows. The instructions Paul gave were the same ones Jesus Christ has given to us. The Living Word is our instruction manual if we know how to read it and do it with purpose. This is how our faith grows and we grow with God.
The applicable items continue (these letters are chuck full of useful actionable items). Abstain from fornication with sin (all types of immorality). Through His Vessel, Jesus, we are sanctified. Do things not from lust or evil thoughts. God has called us to be pure and holy. His judgement for sin is death. Do not fall back into the weakness of the body. Overcome the nature of man through the Savior.
Love all of those around you. Love those closest to you first and expand your circle to love the world. Do not cease until love holds you upright. God loves us and that is the reason for Jesus. Now we have the opportunity to show His love through our human bodies to the rest of the world. Take advantage of this opportunity. Study the word and work on the things you need. God will provide the answers every step along the way. Work for what you have and do not sponge off of others. He will supply you what you need.
Verses 13-18 share the prosperity of the Lord our God coming down from Heaven at the time of the second coming. Believers will be saved and lifted up to meet the Lord. God will one down and if we are alive we will get to see Him. Experience God in your life by connecting with Him on every level. Give Him our thanks and our praise for all the good things in our lives. Be gracious, but also be inquisitive. Ask God questions and talk with Him. He is always available to listen. And if the time is right, He may even find a way to speak to you.
