All the people gathered together and asked for Ezra to bring the bring the book of Law forward unto them. Ezra was a scribe of the temple and read for 6 hours straight to the gathering of people. The people stood for a while honoring God’s word. Often the Jews only prayed standing when in a worship setting. Ezra had 6 men standing on the pulpit with him supporting him is his duty to God. The Word was read and these men expounded upon it. A true expository reading of the Word. Teaching and guiding the people to the true meaning of the Word. The people began to cry at their failure to follow the Word. There is little reason for this behavior. The Lord has forgiven you. Rejoice and share the Word and the saving message to those who do not know it. This 12 verse section has so much in it to rejoice over! The people all met together and asked for the Word of God. How foreign of an event would that be today in the world of protests and counter protests and riots and fighting and arguing. A united people ready to overcome weakness together. How exciting would this be!?!? Would you go? Would you maintain your focus and your desire for Him? Take the attitude of Jerusalem in the verse and seek the Lord. Who are standing up with us as the 12 men did with Ezra? We need our faith support to maintain our strong faith. Open conversation about God and His role maintains our faith and keeps it strong! Like everything else we do as men, we are better together!
The Feast of Tabernacles was restored to its glory and its honor. The festival was done with joy and praise and lifted above the sadness of man’s guilt. Because of our state of being saved, we are to rejoice in Him. Lift up the Lord and continue to learn from the Word. Our attitude and demeanor and behavior is to be shaped by the Book. We are not to shape it, it is to shape us!
