Israel fasted and wore sack clothes on the 24th of this same month. For no reason alone besides they had the desire to Praise God and confess their sins to Him. How wonderful that man decided to do this. Man is weak and for the people to do this on their own shows how in tune they were with God and the Word. How do we all achieve this closeness?
The priests confess that God is creator of all and has the power to lift up any man to be a prophet. Can we be yet a prophet of sorts on our own lives? How is God working in your life? Are you called in a manner to serve Him?
They recap the journey of Israel to get to the promised land as a confession of the Lord and His power. Remembering what the Lord has done for His people is how we keep ourselves in check and honoring Him. If we do not understand all the God has done for us, we cannot grasp how He will help us in our lives.
This chapter continues to honor God with what He hath done for His chosen people. There is little to be done for our weakness outside of the Lord. He should be our rock and our salvation. If we trust in Him we will not end up like the betrayers of the Word and their covenant with God. God will never break His promises. Only man will do that. Hold the Covenant with God close to us and overcome the weakness of man.
