This chapter opens with a roll call of those who signed a Covenant with God. These men were priests and levites. It is not only a roll call but a call to Honor. We know these men kept their Covenant or God would not have included them in His Word. Unless, He makes a lesson of them somewhere that I have yet to find.
All the people with enough intelligence to understand what they were agreeing to (by choice) clave to each other and entered into an oath with God and each other to live in the old Law (the Law of Moses). They did not call it the old Law. They put the Bible on the pedestal to hold them to account of their actions. To keep everything inside the people (no mixed marriages), to only buy from each other, and to uphold the Laws of Leviticus! The laws of man no longer applied to them. How can we separate ourselves from the everyman in a similar manner? With devotion to God.
These people offered up a tithe for each to keep the Temple running. This was a shrewd move on their part as the Temple could not support itself without outside help. The tithes continue with the first fruits of every part of their lives. How do we give to the Church? Do we give our time and our monies to Him? How can we honor the Lord moar? Be not weak in our grasp of earthly wealth.
