This chapter comes with direct instructions to other things The Lord has yet to address to this point.
Keep the Sabbath Holy and find your day of rest to honor me.
Honor and fear your mother and father.
Turn not your molten metal into God. I am your God.
Leave the gleanings for the meek and the poor. God is trying induce an attitude of giving and mercy. This attitude will make us more like Christ when we accept that these truths are to share with the World.
So not steal, nor lie to each other, nor swear by my name.
Pay wages correctly and promptly. Do not withhold monies from workers. Show the utmost compassion to the handicapped and aid them whenever possible. One are righteous but the Lord and we are to treat all equally. The rich and the poor are equal in the eyes of the Lord.
Do not slander against others. Gossip and whisper about others is forbidden. In a world filled with both of these things we must be careful with our tongues.
Love your brother and sister and your neighbor or hold any grudges.
Keep the flow of information clear. Do not allow corruption from the evil one. The Truth comes from the Giver of Salvation. Keep the Word clean and pure. Do not fall for false teachers and their false. doctrine.
Adultery is bad enough but when compounded on with one to be wed to another it is another level. The woman was to be scourged and the man had to make many offerings. Interesting the dichotomy here, but so were the times and the culture. In my mind, if the act was mutual, the punishment should be equal. Man and woman are the same.
Show your commitment to the Lord with nipping your fruit trees for 3 years. Harvesting the 4th year and eating the 5th. The patience required here was a test from God. Are we tested and able to pass? Or will we also fall short and harvest our fruit too early? What other fruit are we trying to push along too fast when patience is required?
Do not separate yourself from God with cuttings in the skin or in the marking of the skin (tatoos). These were both originally designed to honor those dead. We now know through Christ that we will see our loved ones again and they live a life better than ours.
God’s propel must be borne physically and morally. Do not lie with another outside of wedlock and give not unto prostitution. Separate yourself from the sin of the world through the Word.
Be led not by demons but by the Holy Spirit. Do not fall prey to the enemy who desires to attack us from every angle. The charlatans and those that practice witchcraft as well as those that subscribe to a version of that. The only thing we need is the Word and the Lord, the rest is excess.
The aged are to be our examples of how to be connected with God, assuming they are. Honor them and be close to them to gain their knowledge and experience.
Welcome the foreigner into your midst and allow him to adopt our God as his God. Then he shall be your brother. And a son of God. The “all are equal” phrase continues to run its course.
