Paul is such a great writer. Or should I say the Holy Spirit is a great writer! Paul simply writes the word given by the Spirit. I pray my fingers are guided in a similar manner.
Paul defines what Faith truly is. Faith is hope for things based on a lack of physical evidence. Through Faith alone have we come to understand and belief (more importantly) that God created the Heavens and the Earth out of nothing. There is little argument here. Right?
Paul continues with lessons from the Old Testament of Faith. Abel's lamb was better the Cain's offering. The lamb symbolized Jesus the ultimate sacrificial lamb and that is why God chose Abel. God had a plan for this and Paul tells us as much in verse 4! Enoch was translated to heaven in his physical body because of his Faith in God. Through his faith he had pleased God and was so rewarded with this amazing gift! What gifts has God given you that others may not see or recognize? For without Faith, we cannot please God. Our Faith is the first step of our reward for trusting in God. We who seek Him are rewarded! How wonderful is the good news!?!?
Abraham may have been the most Faithful man in the Bible and Paul gives him and his family a bigger section. There is more to cover in regards to Abraham's Faith! Abraham left his home, sook a city to call home, had a child, and received delayed gratitude promises. Yet, Abraham accepted these delayed gratitude promises and absorbed them as his own. The fulfillment of these promises when every child is born in the world. We are all descendants of Abraham. How could he be so appeased by something so far off? The answer is Faith. Faith showed Abraham the way to Canaan and spared his own son. Isaac was the example of supreme levels of Faith. I don't believe I could do that to my son, could you? The Faith of man continues down the line. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses. Do you feel the Faith in you grow joyful as though it is reaching out to you? My Faith was pulled up out of my chest with this chapter.
Starting in verse 24, we cover Moses's Faith. Moses could have indulged in the sin of Pharaoh for a much longer period, yet he divulged from this path and sought the Heavenly reward. - Verse 26 "Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt". This is an example of how we are to live our lives. Away from the sin and plenty and the evil of man. Live with the Lord and the Faith in Him and our reward will be greater. The Passover will come for us as well as it did Egypt. Will you have blood above your door to represent your Faith?
The available examples of Faith in the Bible are endless and Paul has exhausted himself in showing these examples. Go look for yourself! He does expound on the many examples in Verses 29-32. God puts us all through events that test our Faith and our resolve in Him. Verse 33-37 give examples of them, there are much too many to list. The Old Testament Saints knew Christ would come and save them and their souls, just as He does ours. It is our job to act on Faith and hold the Faith of our forefathers up as a guide to ourselves and to those around us. Where can your Faith be shown to the world? What little way can you invite the Spirit to work through you? I've thought of a few ways already.
