The 1st verse gives instruction of what we are to do as Christians. Because we are surrounded by those who came before us, cast aside our load of sin (the heavy burden that we cannot carry on our own), and run with patience the race God has given us. This life is a race and our own death is the finish line. Yet, we do not have to carry the burden of our sin through this life. Jesus, "The Author and Finisher of our Faith" - Verse 2, endured the cross for us so that we would not have to. Because of Christ our Faith works and the act of our Faith and Love for Him gives our Faith an ending. We know our destination after we cross the life's finish line. Will we be judged and lifted up or will we have to bear the weight of our own sins on the Cross? I know where I want to be.
We have seen God work in extraordinary ways, but often the ways He works in our lives are the simple things. He causes us to struggle and we must overcome these struggles. As a father teaching a son, the son must fail and learn the lesson, only then can he have the wisdom of the father. Because God loves us, He treats us as His sons and daughters. He already is the Great Father. Where is God testing you? Maybe He isn't and that in itself is a reason for reflection. We pay our parents much respect in all manners. Do we treat the Lord with the same respect, especially when He chastises us? The motives of God are simple, as Paul tells us. Verse 10 - " but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of Holiness." Everything God has done, is doing, and will do is for His creation. This message could not be any clearer. If God can do all of this for us, what are you doing for Him?
Paul continues on with a warning. Verse 13 - "And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed." Be wary of falling off the path of Righteousness. Becoming spiritually lame is a trap of the devil. If a foot is misplaced, let it be healed. If we make a mis-step, let us seek forgiveness and grace and mercy of our mistake. And most importantly, get back on His road. Without returning to the path less traveled, God's path, "no man shall see the Lord". - Verse 14. Many desire the blessings of God, but without their admittance of being off the path and their desire to find His path, they can never receive it. As Esau failed to receive the blessings of God, so do all non believers.
We get to make the choice of how we face God at the Judgement seat. Do we face Him as non believers, believers and practicing of the Old Law, or as Sons of God saved by Christ. The Judgement of the Old Law is full of fear. Verse 21 - "And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake." This was in reference to seeing God and hearing Him. Christians do not face this God as He is softened through Christ. The Old Law cannot save us. We will always fail and need our sins covered. The covering of Sin is not enough. They must be removed through Jesus to enter the Kingdom. Just as Moses sprinkled the blood, Jesus will sprinkle His blood on us and save us from our sin. We must not turn away from Him or we reject His blood. With Faith, we will receive an unmoving Kingdom. Let us serve God through Grace. "For our God is a consuming fire" - Verse 29. Let His fire consume you and serve Him with the zeal His gives all true believers. Do you feel it burning in your soul? Has He opened the door for your heart to burn for Him?
