Hebrews 3: Verses 1-6 compare Jesus and Moses. The way Paul does this is with much care and caution. He does not put Moses down, but proclaims the difference in Moses and Christ. Moses was a great apostle in his own right but Jesus has more glory than Moses does. Because He was sent from God. Moses was called by God. The calling of man by God is glory, but being sent directly by God is a separating level of glory. "But Christ as a Son over His Own house..." - Verse 6. This creates a clear distinction of the Old and the New Covenants. Jesus's church and the Temple are not the same and the rituals and sacrifice of the Temple and the Old Law we just read about was no longer necessary. In effect, it took all the things that Moses pointed to in Jesus and the Cross and replaced itself! This is no affront to Moses as He was meant to be a precursor to Christ all along!
Paul now speaks on Israel as an example of what happens when we lose our faith. The 40 year journey through the desert was caused by unbelief. In spite of the miracles God provided for them every day. How stubborn could they be to cause the loss of their own life wandering the desert when all they had to do was accept that God was there for them. We must be willing to accept God into our lives or we shall fall into the desert ourselves and wander with no purpose. The things we need to achieve to know Him with our full hearts are simple. God is Majesty of All and provider and creator of All. Let us not delay the satisfaction of accepting God into our hearts and spreading the Word amongst each other. As Verse 13 says, "But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin." Sin is our enemy and Jesus is our key to the door of freedom from Sin. Hold that key tight and open the door. Trust in Him and the door will set you free.
