The High Priest was to be a special selected person who had important jobs to do, particularly in the Old Law. In the New Covenant, his duties changed because he is now a secondary High Priest because of Jesus being the ultimate High Priest. Be like the High Priest and like Christ in the manner of compassion. Have compassion for those who know not they sin, for those who know they sin, and for those who repent of sin. Take the sacrifice (not a real sacrifice anymore, because of Christ) from all of them and hear their voices. Know they all men sin, except the Christ, and treat all men equally as Christ treats us… with Love and Mercy.
Jesus was born to be King and yet His Father made Him suffer. The suffering was along the path of obedience to the Father. His immutability along the path of obedience demonstrates his perfection. The suffering along this path was and is necessary for all of us to live eternally. If we are to follow the same path as Christ in the world today, we will also suffer. This is something we are called to do. Are you prepared to suffer for God and stay on His path?
Paul is frustrated by the slow learning of the Hebrews. He compares them to a babe that is still drinking milk instead of being mature and eating strong meat. This is in reference to their understanding of the Word. They are weak in their understanding of the Old Testament in reference to what it truly means as to how it was explained to them. Christ fulfilled those scriptures and now the interpretation is more complete! With the New Testament alongside the Old Testament, we are able to grasp a more complete comprehension of God’s plan for Christ and for us. Drink the milk of the babe at first, but look for the meat so our knowledge of God and what He desires of us is more complete.
