This chapter is more reflective in its language compared to chapter 10. Verse 3 says: "If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves unto the Earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be." In this verse, we are the tree, leaning one way or the other. Towards God or away from him. Yet, no matter which direction we lean, the Lord is there to take us up and give us His blessings. If we repent and turn our lean towards Him through Christ Jesus, He can work in our lives. The clouds in this verse can represent the blessings of the Lord. Did you notice that the clouds are never viewed as empty by Solomon? The blessings of the Lord are endless. Are you ready to receive His blessings and share Him with the world? Are you prepared to share your bread?
Verse 4 says: " He who observes the wind shall not sow; and he who regards the clouds shall not reap." This is man worrying about his circumstances and attempting to take control. God is in control. Have faith that He will give your sowing the conditions for you to reap. Verses 5 & 6 continue to show how our faith is necessary. We cannot know how God will work, or what He will do. So, why are we trying to act as though we do? The urge to have control of our lives is one of our hardest impulses to surrender. We must practice submission to the Lord and trust in Him and Him alone. Embrace God's wonder. Verse 7 says: "Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun." This light is the light of God. We very rarely will see this light, yet we all look for it. Use not your eyes to see the light. Use your heart. Is your heart prepared to live in Faith and submit to the Lord?
Solomon ends this short chapter with a focus back to vanity. Verse 10 says: "Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity." This is not to say we are not to enjoy our lives. We are to do life with God as the center of our journey. With Him leading the way, we can be pure hearted and act with a purpose above the joys of this world. Fulfillment does not come from this world, but from the next. Where else can we include God in our lives? And what might He do for us when we do?
